Over the course of millions of years, the leaves have developed from a fine forky appearance to a multiplicity of needles we find today in the split Ginko leaf. The more or less deep cut of the leaf has become a distinctive characteristic of Ginkgo Biloba and where it gets its name. Linne' biloba stands for the two limpness.
